Jean-Luc Lahaye has just left the prison of Health (Paris XIV) this Tuesday, May 24. Indeed, the 69-year-old artist had been staying there since last November after being accused of rape of minors as well as “corruption of minors”. Despite his release, he remains under judicial supervision after an appeal by his lawyers, My David Apelbaum and Julia Minkowki as our colleagues from Parisian point out.
It was last fall that Jean-Luc Lahaye had to face justice after two teenage fans decided to file a complaint against him. The two women accuse the former glory of the 80s of having used his notoriety to take advantage of them and obtain sexual relations with them, between August 2013 and April 2015, for the first, and May 2016 and February 2018 , for the second, when they were, at the time, teenagers.
An accusation for revenge?
A “victory” for Jean-Luc Lahaye who recently threatened to end his life and who saw a first request for release rejected by the investigating judges. It was finally the Paris Court of Appeal that accepted the appeal filed by the lawyers of the artist who spent many months in the Health wing. “reserved for ‘vulnerable’ detainees, sensitive personalities by their media coverage or their profession”.
Since he has to face justice, the artist has always firmly denied the facts. For him, relations with the two young women have always been consented. During his first appearance, he put forward a supposed revenge on the part of the alleged victims. “Is it something more hidden, which would be something less avowable, which would ultimately be pecuniary, to obtain convictions and fines. […] Maybe because I have been happy in my life with Paola (his new companion) for five years. Maybe it’s a fault for them to be happy with Paola”, he defended himself.
