The RN deplores “perfectly immoral behavior”and denounces a “genuine sabotage”. MEP Nicolas Bay, spokesperson for the National Rally, is suspended from all his internal functions in the movement, announced Tuesday February 15 the executive office of the far-right party in a press release consulted by the political service of France televisions. “We have had confirmation that Nicolas Bay, taking advantage of his presence in the highest instances of the campaign, has been transmitting strategic and confidential elements for months to our direct competitor Eric Zemmour. This has repeatedly allowed the interference of the events of the countryside”writes the party to justify its decision.
“Barely an hour after asking for a discussion in the Executive Board, I am suspended!”reacted Nicolas Bay on Twitter. “The accusation is crude: not participating in any instance of campaign management, how could I have known and passed on alleged ‘strategic information’!?”.

Former secretary general (2014-2017) and former vice-president of the party, Nicolas Bay is considered to be ideologically close to Marion Maréchal. He has been at odds with Marine Le Pen for several years, who dismissed him from the investiture committee in the summer of 2020, like other relatives of his niece.
The RN candidate for the presidential election had asked him at the end of January to clarify his position in the party after the broadcast of an interview which had made his ranks cringe. During a televised duplex, he said he supported “without ambiguity” the candidate of the RN, before sowing doubt by launching: “I don’t have to justify myself on what I will be doing in a month, six months or a year” and “I don’t consider Eric Zemmour to be an enemy”.
