The Minister of Justice sent two arms of honor to the president of the LR group Olivier Marleix, during a public session held on Tuesday at the National Assembly.

The Minister of Justice Éric Dupond-Moretti addressed arms of honor in the hemicycle to the president of the LR group Olivier Marleix, Tuesday March 7, who had just recalled his indictment, before quickly apologizing to the caused outcry. During discussions on a text by the Renaissance group for a mandatory ineligibility sentence against perpetrators of violence, Olivier Marleix recalled several cases concerning members of the presidential camp, including the Minister of Justice.

After a first suspension of the session, the Minister of Justice Eric Dupond-Moretti took the floor in the hemicycle by affirming that he conceded that “This gesture was not an adequate gesture.” The Minister of Justice then continued: “if you took it for yourself, I regret this gesture, he replied. But when I make this double gesture, I said it, it is a finger of honor to the presumption of innocence”. For his part, the president of the LR group Olivier Marleix denounced the “rudeness” of the minister. “I did not make any accusation, I recalled a fact”he said, before adding: “apologies are not for me, they are for the institution”.

On this subject, Eric Dupond-Moretti then responded to the elected official, evoking the accusations of illegal taking of interests which target him and to which the deputy Olivier Marleix mentioned. I was indicted, not convicted”pleaded the minister. “I totally dispute all the facts that are reproached to me”he added, before once again apologizing to MP LR Olivier Marleix, “as well as to all the national representation”. The minister is accused of having taken advantage of his position to settle accounts with magistrates whom he had opposed when he was a lawyer.
