(Los Angeles) The actor of pornographic films Ron Jeremy, charged in California with rape and sexual assault on 21 victims, some of whom are minors, suffers from “severe dementia” and will be declared unfit for his trial, according to the Los Angeles Times.
A judge had ordered psychiatric tests in March because the actor, who has to his credit more than 1,700 appearances in X films since the end of the 1970s, had not recognized one of his lawyers, Stuart Goldfarb, when he had visited him in prison.
According to an email obtained by the American daily, the doctors appointed by both the prosecution and the defense believe that he is ill and that his judgment is seriously affected.
“Given the agreement of the experts, the accused will be declared unfit for trial”, explains in this email one of the prosecutors of the Los Angeles prosecution, Paul Thompson. “If his condition doesn’t improve, we won’t be able to try him for his crimes. »
Ron Jeremy had long been the subject of accusations of sexual violence within the profession and had been kept out of various events in recent years.
In June 2020, he was charged with the rape of three women and sexual assault on a fourth. His arrest and his appearance in a Los Angeles court had sparked a new wave of complaints against the sixty-something, locked up since then.
The oldest facts date back to 1996 and in total, Ron Jeremy is accused of various sexual assaults on 21 women aged 15 to 51, according to the Los Angeles County prosecutor.
Ron Jeremy, who had declared himself totally “innocent” on Twitter, pleaded “not guilty” to all the facts of which he is accused.
In June 2020, Mr.e Goldfarb had denied the accusations against his client, assuring that he was “not a rapist”.
“Ron, over the years and because of who he is, has partnered with over 4,000 women […] Women throw themselves at him,” the lawyer told AFP.
