Pharmacies strike: “According to the latest figures, 300 pharmacies will have closed in 2023”, warns the president of the Hauts-de-Seine union

Pharmacists’ unions are calling for a strike of on-call pharmacies, Saturday May 18 and Sunday May 19. Explanations in 12/13 info with Béatrice Clairaz-Mathiou, president of the Hauts-de-Seine pharmacists’ union.

The negotiations which took place during the week between pharmacists and Health Insurance were unsuccessful. “What gets stuck is the gap between what we ask for to increase our fees and what Health Insurance offers us (…) and which we consider as bread crumbs”explains Béatrice Clairaz-Mathiou, president of the Hauts-de-Seine pharmacists’ union, on the set of 12/13, Saturday May 18.

She evokes the “real threat” which weighs on the profession. “In post-Covid, there are pharmacies in financial difficulty. (…) According to the latest figures, there were 300 pharmacies which closed in 2023”indicates Béatrice Clairaz-Mathiou, who deplores an increase in charges and the cost of inflation.

The shortage of medicines is also worrying. “For about a year and a half, we have been sounding the alarm. We keep running out of medicines: there were around 3,000 medicines missing in 2023, compared to 5,000 today”, specifies the pharmacist. According to Béatrice Clairaz-Mathiou, pharmacies spend between 8 hours and 12 hours per week working “find solutions” for patients.
