“According to him, I was supposed to die and then I thought about dying,” confides victim Laury Choinière, during an exclusive interview on LCN.

“Clearly, the man wanted me dead, he wanted to disfigure me, so that I would no longer be accessible to anyone,” she specifies.

Back to events

The relationship between Yan-Philippe Leduc and Laury Choinière was in its fourth month when the young woman decided to end it in December 2023.

“In the beginning, he was perfect, the perfect man that every woman dreams of having,” explains M.me Choinière.

However, the victim confides that their relationship slowly transformed as she showed signs of attachment. A situation that she compares to a fish “that takes the bait well”.

In December, the situation was such that she filed a complaint against the man on December 10. However, he strongly insisted that she remove it, which she did in order to calm the situation.

She says today that she regrets this decision.

“I should have left the complaint and just left because the situation would not have degenerated so much,” she regrets.

“The horror movie has begun”

Laury Choinière claims that the quarrel began on December 30, when her ex-spouse learned that she had discovered that he had lied to her. She was about to experience the most violent event of her life.

“I found out and it made him angry, that I discovered his lies, and then when he arrived, that’s when the horror movie started,” she says, still upset by events.

After a heated altercation, the young woman claims that she was “beaten” and even “strangled” by the enraged man.

“I saw my life flash before my eyes,” she says. “It seems like you feel yourself getting weaker. You know that you are heading towards death.”

The victim explains that this savage attack was a form of “revenge” for the accused. According to her, the latter no longer wanted her to be able to get back together in the future, since she no longer wanted to be with him.

“Completely covered in blood”

Being accustomed to episodes of violence, Laury Choinière immediately noticed, when the accused arrived, that he was particularly aggressive and that the situation could degenerate at any moment. She therefore “planned her attack” by having her cell phone at hand to call the police at the first moment of respite.

“I could no longer see out of my left eye and my right eye was so closed that it was very difficult to see,” she says. “The first time I looked at myself in the bathroom, I asked him how he did that… and there was no response from him.”

Soon alone, the young woman claims that she managed to call 911, a reflex that “saved her life”.

“I was lucky, surely I am protected by heaven,” says Mme Choinière, despite the terrible episode she experienced.

The victim says she took off her clothes while waiting for the police, wanting to be washed since she “was completely covered in blood”.

“The moment I heard the front door open, I went out [de la salle de bain]I put my arms [en l’air] and I screamed: ‘help me, help me’,” she explains.

“I had physical as well as mental injuries”

Laury Choinière decided to speak out today to send a message of support to women victims of domestic violence.

“I really want to help other women who are in the same situation as me to be able to get out of it before it’s too late because when you see death so closely… you don’t think that can happen to you, you think you’re invincible, that it only happens in horror movies, or to other people.”

The young woman recognizes, however, that her injuries are not only “physical”, but above all “mental”.

“The physical, it’s sure that it’s repaired more quickly, but the mental, it’s going to stay forever, all my life, it’s going to remain a trauma like a horror film in my head,” confides- her without being able to hold back her tears.
