(Montreal) Canadian actor Gordon Pinsent has died at the age of 92, confirmed his friend, actor Mark Critch, in a telephone interview with The Canadian Press.
The Newfoundland native has been a household name in Canada for decades, known for his many stage and screen appearances.
Mr. Critch said he will miss Gordon Pinsent as a mentor, friend, hero and “giant colossus of Canadian entertainment”.
Born in Grand Falls, Newfoundland and Labrador, in 1930, Mr. Pinsent was the youngest of six children born to Stephen Pinsent, a paper mill worker and shoemaker, and his wife, Flossie.
Gordon Pinsent’s career peaked well past his 70s with an award-winning performance as a heartbroken husband in film away from her (Away From Her).
The actor rose to international prominence after his role as the Genie Award-winning Grant in director Sarah Polley’s acclaimed directorial debut.
