Accident in Lanaudière | A man succumbs to his wounds

(Sainte-Julienne) A collision involving three vehicles left one dead Saturday morning in Sainte-Julienne, in the Lanaudière region.

The police were notified shortly before 6:30 a.m. of the events on Route 125.

According to initial reports, the driver of a sedan first lost control of his vehicle.

“There is a first vehicle, which is a Ford Taurus, which rolled over to end up in the ditch before finally finishing its race on the center line of Route 125,” said Sergeant Audrey-Anne Bilodeau, spokesperson for the Sûreté du Québec (SQ).

The driver of a cube truck who witnessed the scene attempted to intervene to protect the driver of the overturned vehicle in the middle of the street, but was unsuccessful.

“Another small Jetta car, traveling south, hit the first vehicle head-on and pushed it almost to the cube truck,” said Sergeant Bilodeau.

The man driving the sedan was in critical condition. He was transported to the Lanaudière Regional Hospital (CHRDL) in Joliette where he was pronounced dead.

“As for the driver of the Jetta, he has injuries that, at first glance, would not threaten his life. He was nevertheless transported to the hospital center. For their part, the people in the cube truck would not have been injured, ”said the spokesperson for the SQ.

Route 125 in Sainte-Julienne was closed to traffic in order to allow Sûreté du Québec investigators to try to determine the exact circumstances of the accident.

One of the hypotheses is that the driver of the first car tried to “avoid something on the road” before the initial swerve, which the SQ investigation will have to confirm.

“We are not talking about speed or alcohol, at first glance,” admitted Sergeant Bilodeau.
