(Las Vegas) Former Las Vegas Raiders wide-area end Henry Ruggs III was going over 250 km / h with double the blood alcohol limit in the state of Nevada when his sports car crashed. Crashed the back of a vehicle that caught fire, killing the 23-year-old driver, prosecutors said Wednesday.
The Raiders released Ruggs on Tuesday evening, hours after the accident, his hospitalization, and his transfer to a Las Vegas penitentiary. His initial court appearance was on Wednesday, and he has been formally charged with impaired driving causing death and dangerous driving – which could earn him up to 26 years in prison if convicted.
Ruggs, 22, appeared along with his lawyers, David Chesnoff and Richard Schonfeld. He was not asked to submit a plea, as the court is still awaiting the official indictment from Clark County District Attorney Steve Wolfson.
The name of the accident victim, who was accompanied by his dog at the time of the tragedy, has not been released.
The passenger in Ruggs’ car was, however, identified by the Las Vegas police officers. This is 22-year-old Kiara Je’nai Kilgo-Washington from Las Vegas.

Ruggs is the owner of a US $ 1.1 million residence located near the crash site.
Prosecutor Eric Bauman said Ruggs’ Corvette’s on-board computer indicated that it went from 251 to 204 km / h before hitting the victim’s Toyota RAV4 head-on.
Bauman added that Ruggs had a blood alcohol level of 0.16%. The police had previously mentioned in a statement that Ruggs appeared to be intoxicated when they arrived at the scene of the tragedy.
He also indicated that a loaded firearm was found on the floor of his car.
Ruggs will be back in court on November 10, the judge said.
