Access to downtown | The Ville-Marie highway heavily obstructed this weekend

Traffic towards downtown Montreal is likely to be more difficult this weekend, when a large section of the Ville-Marie highway will be closed. It will also be necessary to provide obstructions in the Saint-Pierre interchange, on Highway 40 and various other roads.

This was confirmed Thursday by the Mobilité Montréal committee, responsible for coordinating major work in the metropolitan region.

Eastbound, towards the city center, the Ville-Marie highway will first be completely closed from Friday evening to Monday morning between exit 2 for Atwater avenue and the entrances from de la Cathédrale and Notre-Dame streets West.

Notice to motorists: several other localized closures will be associated with this obstacle, particularly in the Turcot interchange. Towards the west, the entrance to the Ville-Marie highway coming from rue Lucien-L’Allier will also have to be blocked from 5 a.m. to 2 p.m., Saturday.

Once again, congestion is also likely to occur in the Saint-Pierre interchange this weekend, since the ramp leading from Route 138 East to Highway 20 East is planned to be closed from Friday evening to Monday morning. Dense traffic should therefore be observed in the axis of the interchange, but also on the Honoré-Mercier bridge, warns the Ministry of Transport.

In addition, Route 138 East itself will also have to be closed between rue Clément and the Saint-Pierre interchange, from Sunday evening to Monday morning. One of the two lanes of the ramp leading from Route 138 East to Highway 20 East will also have to be cut during the weekend.

Further north, in Sainte-Anne-de-Bellevue, Highway 40 will once again be closed in the west direction between exit 41 of Boulevard des Anciens-Combattants and the following entrance, for three consecutive nights of the weekend. -end from Friday.

This sector is also likely to be particularly obstructed, because Boulevard des Anciens-Combattants will be completely blocked in both directions, between Pacific Avenue and the service road of Autoroute 40 Est, from Saturday morning to Sunday evening .

But that’s not all. The surroundings of downtown Montreal, in the Ville-Marie sector, should also be more congested, since the City of Montreal will have to impose contraflow traffic on Sherbrooke Street East between Saint-André and Atateken streets throughout the day of Saturday. Only one lane will therefore be available in each direction.

Meanwhile, on the South Shore, in Saint-Lambert, exit 79 for Notre-Dame Avenue on Route 132 will be blocked from Friday evening to Monday morning.

Outside of Montreal, obstructions will continue at the Laviolette bridge between Trois-Rivières and Bécancour, where two out of four lanes will have to be closed throughout the weekend. Motorists and other users will therefore only have access to one lane per direction.
