The accelerated training and success at all costs of practical nursing students is a real tragedy for our health system. This is not a job, but training towards a profession!
The lack of rigor in correction and the speed of timetables deprive students of time, which results in easy and much too rapid success.
Practical nurses, due to the production line, are often ill-prepared to deal with complex medical situations. Possible consequences are errors and inadequate nursing care. In addition, training that is too short harms the reputation of the medical profession as a whole.
Patients lose trust in health care and its staff, which can dissuade them from seeking care when they need it. This leads to delays in the treatment and monitoring of serious health complications, and sometimes even deaths.
It is important that health authorities take immediate action to remedy this situation.
Adequate training of practical nurses over a full 24 months as initially planned is essential to guarantee quality care and ensure that new practical nurses will be better prepared to face the new reality of health care in 2023.
