Abuse and Neglect | Quebec extends its supervision of the Floralies residences

The residences for seniors Floralies will remain under the supervision of Quebec for an additional period of 90 days. In November, an investigation report revealed several cases of abused and neglected residents.

The intermediate resource (RI) and private residence for seniors (RPA) sectors of the Floralies residences, located in Lachine and LaSalle, were placed under guardianship in September for an initial period of 120 days.

“Although the situation has been stabilized, collaborative work is still underway with the leaders of Floralie,” said the spokesperson for the CIUSSS de l’Ouest-de-l’Île-de-Montréal, Hélène Bergeron- Gamache.

Quebec has decided to extend the guardianship for a period of 3 months, “in order to ensure the long-term improvement of the quality of care and services offered to residents and to ensure the continued application of the recommendations”.

Valid until 1er February, the provisional administration of the CHSLD sector of the Floralies residences could also be extended if necessary.

Dehydrated residents, untreated wounds, marks of physical violence: an investigation report made public in November revealed the “deplorable” living conditions at the Floralies residences, which house more than 400 seniors.

Twenty recommendations were then issued.
