The abstention rate for this first round of the presidential election could reach 26.5%, according to an initial estimate by Ipsos-Sopra Steria for Radio France, France Télévisions, France 24, Les Chaines Parlementaires and Le Parisien. This is more than in 2017 (22.2%) but less than the record of 2002: 28.4% of voters then shunned the ballot box. Such a level of abstention – lower than those observed during other types of elections in recent years, and in particular during the regional and departmental elections of 2021 – nevertheless remains very high for a presidential election, considered to be the queen election of the Fifth Republic. .
