About 600 people gathered on Saturday February 25 in Carhaix (Finistère) to support the editorial staff of the weekly The Poher and a journalist from France 3, targeted by threats from the far right, reports France Bleu Breizh Izel. Journalists, politicians, trade unionists and citizens participated in this rally of support.

Death threats and bomb threats

These threats appeared after the publication of articles on the Horizon project, in Callac. Now abandoned, it provided for the reception of a few refugee families in this commune. This project had given rise to several demonstrations by opponents, led in particular by the Reconquest party. And for several weeks, the journalists of the poher receive malicious calls and emails, including death threats. The weekly’s premises in Carhaix even had to be evacuated on Monday, February 20, after a bomb threat.

This rally of support is important for Erwan Chartier, editor-in-chief of the Poher: “We may not have realized the seriousness of things quickly enough, but it’s happening in other regions, it’s happening elsewhere in Europe.”
