On the Pacific, to the north of the American west coast, France 2’s 8 p.m. teams were able to board coast guard vessels which patrol one of the most dangerous areas on the planet. Reporting.

The place bears the terrible name of Pacific Cemetery. A place so dangerous that in two centuries, more than 2,000 boats have sunk along these steep cliffs. At least 700 sailors lost their lives there. These are some of the most difficult conditions in the world and have become the training ground for the coast guard. Faced with waves that can reach 10 meters high, the best officers come to learn how to intervene and save, sometimes at the risk of their lives.

Know how to get around the waves

That day, nine students are preparing to go to sea. They are already experienced, but the conditions promise to be difficult. Little visibility, complicated waves: conditions that the recruits came for. For more than five hours, the students permanently attached to the boats will have to put themselves in real rescue conditions. First technique to master: being able to go around the waves. Like in chess, you always have to be one step ahead.
