Abitibi-Témiscamingue | Head-on collision kills one on Highway 117

(Rivière-Héva) A woman lost her life in a head-on collision between two vehicles on Route 117 in Abitibi-Témiscamingue on Friday evening.


The lady in her 60s was one of two occupants of one of the vehicles involved in the accident. She was taken seriously injured to hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

The other occupant of the vehicle, a man, was transported to a hospital as a preventive measure, specifies the spokesperson for the Sûreté du Québec, Hélène St-Pierre.

The driver of the other vehicle suffered non-life-threatening injuries and is also in hospital.

The head-to-head collision occurred around 6:30 p.m. on Route Saint-Paul Sud, also known as Route 117, in Rivière-Héva, in the MRC of La Vallée-de-l’Or.

An investigation is underway to determine the causes and circumstances of the accident.

In the evening, a bypass route has been set up for passenger vehicles.
