(Barraute) A motorist is in critical condition after a face-to-face collision that occurred Tuesday evening in Barraute, in Abitibi-Témiscamingue.
The collision occurred around 7:45 p.m. on Route 397 northbound, in the municipality of Barraute.
According to the Sûreté du Québec (SQ), at least two people were injured in the accident, but the circumstances leading to the collision were still unclear late Tuesday evening.
One of the drivers suffered serious injuries. Extrication pliers were necessary to extricate him from his vehicle. He was transported to a hospital where his life is feared.
Police officers trained in investigation and collision were dispatched to the scene to analyze the scene and try to better understand the causes and circumstances surrounding this event.
Route 397 is currently closed to traffic and a detour has been erected.
