Abd Al Malik is a singer, writer, director, director and screenwriter. He is a lover of words and an ardent defender of living together. He signed a series for the france.tv platform, called 9.3 BB, posted online Friday April 19. A series of eight 26-minute episodes of which he is the director and which was written by his wife Wallen.

Both from working-class neighborhoods, they wanted to show the department of Seine-Saint-Denis, 9.3, in a different light. Starting from the observation that often, we “highlights the exception” particularly in the world of series with drugs, violence etc., they wanted to show that even if it is “a reality”she is “minority”. “The majority of residents are women, men, young people, not so young people who are making their way, who are making their life and trying to live it to the best of their ability and who are living their passion and from their passion,” explains Abd Al Malik.

“We wanted to tell the story of a passionate Leïla in this series,” he continues. Leïla, 19 years old, lives in a city. Her lover will die suddenly, killed in a fight. It is an encounter with the theater that will give meaning to his life. A character through whom we find the sensitivity of Abd Al Malik, certain that art, beauty, words can change an existence and whose message is positive: “Coming from a difficult socio-cultural background is not inevitable in itself.”

The young woman meets a theater director, played by Patrick Bouchitey, a kind man and all the possibilities open up to her. A most important story of intergenerational transmission for Abd Al Malik and his wife who benefited from it when they were younger, “it’s essential. It’s part of what builds us as beings, truly”, he confides.

“Art in general forms a whole, it is the mirror of humanity. My idea is to use the medium best suited to the emotion that I want to convey.”
