Every summer, it’s the same tune. Animals are abandoned at the time of the great departures on vacation. Once again, the figures for this year 2023 are maddening.
A little eight-month-old bichonne has just arrived in a refuge in Brignais (Rhône), Monday July 24. It was an individual who found her alone and without a collar. Béatrice Tauvel, animal manager of the Lyon Brignais SPA, has been welcoming abandoned animals like this one for 30 years. “Even with the years, we can’t shield ourselves. We feel like we can’t make it“, she explains.
Raise awarness
Since 1er July, the SPAs of Brignais and Dompierre (Ain), more than 500 animals were collected. A number of them were found on the public highway by the pound. Anyway, it’s 10% more than last year at the same time. To fight against these summer abandonments, the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes prefecture and the communities are mobilizing to raise awareness among the populations.
