The pilots will compete for the first time on Thursday, in the heart of the Saudi desert, in a 48-hour marathon stage.

An unprecedented organization and already upheavals. The Dakar peloton completed the first part of the brand new 48-hour marathon stage in the middle of the desert and dunes of Saudi Arabia. The drivers from all categories still in the race joined the various bivouacs before resuming the start on Friday morning. Which is not the case for Yazeed Al-Rajhi (Toyota), leader among the cars at the start, who suffered an accident at the very start of the special and was forced to retire.

Sébastien Loeb currently 3rd, Adrien Van Beveren provisionally in the lead

In the lead when the clock stopped and at all points in between, Carlos Sainz (Audi) got back into the race at a pace that would allow him to take the lead in the standings. He is provisionally ahead of his teammate Mattias Ekström and Sébastien Loeb (Prodrive). Winner of the 2nd stage, Stéphane Peterhansel experienced a mechanical problem which forced him to stop for several hours.

Among the motorcycles, the French Adrien Van Beveren (Honda) took the lead at the second refueling, after almost 400 kilometers, ahead of Ricky Brabec, who would take the lead in the general classification.

The marathon stage of the Dakar 2024 had an exciting first day, marked by the exceptional performance of Adrien Van Beveren aboard his Honda. The French driver completed the first part of this grueling stage with the best time, narrowly ahead of Ricky Brabec (Honda), the new provisional leader of the general classification. -
