Julien Bayou, European Ecology-Les Verts (EELV) deputy from Paris, was the guest of “8:30 a.m. franceinfo”, Saturday April 22, 2023. A69 motorway project between Toulouse and Castres, drought, future European elections in 2024… He answers to questions from Lorrain Sénéchal and Hadrien Bect.
A69 Toulouse-Castres motorway: “an anachronistic project” which must be “abandoned”
The deputy EELV points a “anachronistic project” about the disputed A69 motorway project, which should link Toulouse to Castres (Tarn) in 2025. While opponents of the project are calling for demonstrations on Saturday on the future route, Julien Bayou pleads for a “peaceful, non-violent and festive mobilization”. Some 2,000 people are expected for this event, organized in Saïx, on the route of the future motorway. The Green deputy proposes to strengthen the Toulouse-Castres rail links. For this, he calls on the Minister of Transport Clément Beaune to “package” on the train.
Drought: we must first “change the Minister of Ecology”
MP EELV believes that the government has not “no plan” against drought. “We are told about planning, nothing has been done (…). We are talking about saving, water, sobriety. There is nothing, there is no plan, there is no has no constraints”, deplores the elected Parisian. For Julien Bayou, water regulation must be done by “the blue rule which is a very simple principle: do not take more water than nature is able to regenerate.” “There are sectors that abuse water consumption that must be regulated”he points out, referring in particular to agriculture. “In this country, there is waste of water and there are some who lack it terribly”he continued. “You will still have watered golf courses in the middle of summer”stings Julien Bayou.
Asked about a possible ban on filling private swimming pools, the EELV deputy regrets to “new to weigh on the individual the responsibility [du gouvernement] to have done nothing”.
European elections: “an ecological, federalist line” for a left-wing alliance
“Yes” for a left-wing alliance in the next European elections, assures Julien Bayou, but on one condition: that it be “an ecological, federalist line” in order to “Reorienting Europe”. “If other lists, other communists, rebels, socialists want to come to this line, I think you have to say ‘you are welcome'”he assures.
The former number one of the Greens seems to join the deputy Sandrine Rousseau who spoke on Wednesday on franceinfo in favor of a “common list” de la Nupes in the European elections of May 2024. “I think we have to present our own proposals and see how the rebels react to our vision of Europe”had declared the deputy ecologist.
