Belgian singer Claude Barzotti has died at his home from cancer, his manager announced on Saturday at theAFP. The interpreter of successful slows such as The Rital, Love Me, Madam or I won’t write to you anymore “died at age 69 in his bed, surrounded by his two daughters”in a municipality located between Brussels and Charleroi, in Belgium, said Laurent Comtat.“Barzotti preferred to be called a singer of emotion rather than romantic. He was a lively flay, a real sensitive, who drank to fight against his stage fright”he specified.
Having written for several singing stars including Dalida, the artist had invited Céline Dion to do his first part in 1985. In the 2000s, he had participated in the Age tender and head of wood tour with Sheila, Patrick Juvet or even Frank Alamo. But then, in 2020, because of covid and a serious illness, he preferred to end his career. “I know that I am exhausted and that I will never be able to go back on stage again. I have been singing for 40 years, I think I have done enough”he confided to DH. “I think I’ve had an honorable career, a great career. I’ve had a lot of number 1s, very big popular hits. I’ve offered people, my fans, whom I thank very much for having me followed during these 40 years, songs that still bring them happiness, it is a great satisfaction for me.
Involved in a violent accident
In 2019, Claude Barzotti made the headlines. Indeed, the musician was involved in a car accident. His vehicle had hit another in which there were three occupants: a 65-year-old man and his two grandsons, 13 and 7, at school. Injured, the three had to be taken to the hospital. The 13-year-old boy, sitting in the passenger seat, was the most seriously affected by the collision. He was diagnosed with retinal detachment and tear. “My son has damage to his right eye, he could be partially blind”, had testified the father of the teenager in the columns of the Belgian media. “His eyesight will be forever impaired anyway.”
The case had been tried in criminal matters considered as involuntary blows and injuries. Having driven under the influence of alcohol, Claude Barzotti had his license revoked for 6 hours following a breathalyzer.
