A young skateboarder seriously hit by a vehicle in the city center

A 22-year-old snowboarder is in critical condition after being hit by a vehicle that then fled on Sunday evening in the south-central district of Montreal.

The collision took place around 6:30 p.m. at the intersection of De Lorimier Avenue and Sainte-Catherine Street. According to preliminary information, the vehicle was traveling on De Lorimier in a southerly direction when she hit the skateboarder who was crossing the street from east to west.

The 22-year-old suffered serious upper body injuries. He was taken to hospital where there are fears for his life.

The vehicle left the scene before the police arrived, said Agent Catherine Chèvrefils, spokesperson for the Montreal Police Service.

A scene was erected on site to allow investigators to learn more.

Witnesses were also interviewed.

Avenue De Lorimier was closed to traffic between René Levesque and De Maisonneuve.

Sainte-Catherine Street has been closed from Cartier Street.
