After very long months away from their families, some Ukrainian soldiers have the right to return home. A reunion not without emotions, a year after the start of the Russian offensive.
They drove all night so as not to lose a minute. Oleg and Artem, artillerymen, return for the first time from Donbass. “To hold on, I keep a letter from my wife on my heart”, testifies Oleg. Artem is confused: “It’s been so long since I left, I don’t know where I live. I’m very nervous”. He finds his partner, his granddaughter, and his grandmother. Oleg falls into the arms of his wife and must reassure his children, especially his young son, Aleksei. Both did not wait to be mobilized to go to the front, and volunteered.
War away
Ukraine is fond of these reunion images, and the army does not hesitate to include them in its communication. A way to admire the courage and the sacrifice of the soldiers who left for the front. In an attempt to ward off the specter of war, Oleg and his family went skiing. Artem went to visit kyiv with his family. They took their picture with a dove, a symbol of peace.
