On January 6, 2021, American democracy trembled for several hours, attacked at its heart. Thousands of Donald Trump supporters invaded the Capitol in Washington, threatening law enforcement and elected officials. One year later, where are the lawsuits?

On January 6, 2021, supporters of Donald Trump, some who came with pitchforks, smashed the doors of Congress, the heart of American institutions, beating the police on the way, forced to withdraw. The vice-president, Mike Pence, accused of being a traitor by the rioters because he had just validated the result of the elections, was evacuated in disaster. A year later, the emotion is still strong. “January 6, 2021 will forever be a day of infamy, and the last bitter act of the worst president of our modern era“said Chuck Schumer, Leader of the Democratic Senators.

In an extraordinary investigation, the FBI went through all the videos. More than 700 people have been charged. Many of them have been convicted of degrading public buildings, a few of conspiracies. Jacob Chansley, sentenced to 41 months in prison, assures in a CBS document that “for [lui], Donald Trump was protecting the Constitution [et] Americans“.

A commission of inquiry, reduced to the House of Representatives, also shed light on Donald Trump’s responsibility, before and after the events. “We had first-hand testimonies, assuring that on two occasions, his daughter Ivanka, asked him to intervene and to put an end to this violence“, reports Liz Cheney, Republican MP and vice-president of the parliamentary committee. Joe Biden is scheduled to speak on Thursday, January 6.
