a work of Banksy stolen in the street

A Stop traffic sign with three military drones, the work of street artist Banksy, was stolen from Southampton Way, south of London. Londoners have barely had time to admire the artist’s latest work before it has already disappeared. The theft was committed on Friday, in broad daylight and in full view of passers-by. A video shows a man climbing on a bicycle and removing the panel using simple pliers then running away. Banksy had posted photos of the panel a few hours earlier to authenticate his creation.

Highly coveted works

The artist had already been the victim of criminals. In 2018, he created a painting on the gate of the Bataclan in tribute to the victims of the attacks. It was stolen a year later, found in Italy, the three thieves, from Lyon, had been sentenced to prison. The same year, his drawing of the rat with a cutter near the Pompidou center was cut out. The thieves of the road sign have not yet been found. The anonymous artist never reacted to these thefts, nor even filed a complaint. Banksy’s works sell for very high prices, his record, the girl with the balloon who was programmed to self-destruct and was then sold for 21 million euros.
