A work by Riopelle stolen 17 years ago has been found

A work by the famous Quebec painter Jean-Paul Riopelle was found by the police in a residence in Mirabel, north of Montreal.

The Sûreté du Québec (SQ) carried out a search there in July after receiving information from citizens.

The police then got their hands on a lithograph that was allegedly stolen on June 30, 2005 from the painter’s studio in Sainte-Marguerite-du-Lac-Masson, in the Laurentians.

The thieves had at that time stolen four works, three of which are still missing.

The SQ could not confirm at this time whether charges would be brought against the residents of the residence where the lithograph – in the colors of gray, black and yellow and surrounded by outlines of birds – was found.
