A woman was the victim of a medical error in a Tours university hospital during treatment for breast cancer, revealed France Bleu Touraine on Friday November 10. The patient underwent a series of rays on the wrong breast last spring, at the CHRU Bretonneau, in Tours.
France Bleu Touraine says that it took 25 sessions, out of the 28 initially planned, before realizing the error. The ASN (the Nuclear Safety Agency) confirms that the doctor made a mistake by writing right breast instead of left breast on “the report of the initial medical consultation”which is “one of the reasons that contributed to this error”recognizes ASN.
This is not the first incident at CHRU Bretonneau
“This is not the first time that such an incident has occurred at Bretonneau hospital”adds the Nuclear Safety Agency, mentioning an error concerning a patient’s ear, discovered after the first session this time.
The CHRU reacted and evoked multiple causes which led to these “serious” errors, without saying more at the moment. The victim patient nevertheless decided to continue to trust the team in the hospital’s radiotherapy department.
