Tragedy in Compiègne. A judicial investigation into murder by a partner has been opened.“Some press articles having mentioned that the victim, born male, had begun a gender transition and had a female civil status, it should be noted that at this stage of the investigation, there is no evidence to indicate that this element would have motivated a criminal act”the prosecutor wrote.

The accused was already known to the courts. His criminal record includes “several mentions, notably for financial offences, but also for intentional violence dating back more than 10 years”the prosecutor said. On average, a femicide occurs every three days in France. According to the Minister of Justice, Eric Dupond-Moretti, there were 94 femicides in 2023, after 118 in 2022.
