In Gabon, the military overthrew President Ali Bongo. General Brice Oligui Nguema, transitional president, promises numerous reforms, particularly in the field of education. The start of the university year, Wednesday September 27, is marked by hope.

Return to school, at the Omar Bongo University in Libreville (Gabon). Here, the walls are dilapidated, grants for the poorest are not paid, and teachers go without pay for sometimes several months. Under the Bongo presidency, the education sector remained underfunded.

Hope for change

Four weeks after the fall of the regime, the students are hoping for a new wind. “Many drop out because they do not have accommodation in the capital, because it is the only public university. I think the president will review all that, set up a campus, and why not create a university in each province“, testifies Karly Elislande, law student.

General Brice Oligui Nguema was proclaimed transitional president. He promised numerous reforms in favor of young people, particularly in the education sector.
