The Berlin region (Germany) on the alert. Major searches mobilizing helicopters and drones were underway Thursday, July 20 in the south of the German federal capital, in an attempt to find a wild animal “who could be a lioness”, authorities said. Residents in the alert zone are asked not to leave their homes.
The city police were alerted by two passers-by, who managed to film the animal in question overnight from Wednesday to Thursday. The video has since found its way onto social media. These residents told authorities that they had seen a threatening animal chasing another. “One was a wild boar and the other was obviously a beast, a lioness,” said Daniel Keip, spokesman for the Brandenburg police.
“The wild animal could be a lioness”, Berlin police said on Twitter when the alert, given overnight, initially concerned neighborhoods in the southwest of the city. The alert zone was then extended to several municipalities on the outskirts of Berlin. “The animal has still not been found! We ask you to stay at home”wrote the Brandenburg police on Twitter Thursday morning.
