A whale was stranded on a beach in Finistère on Monday September 19. On the night of Monday to Tuesday, the whale was saved by Sea Shepherd volunteers.

Monday, September 19, in Finistère, a backhoe tries to clear a path for a whale to go back to sea. Volunteers fought for several hours, until the middle of the night. Thanks to the rising tide, the fin whale will finally regain its freedom. “It’s an incredibly emotional moment, because once again everyone was telling us it was an animal that was dying. That was already talking about euthanasia”explains Lamya Essemlali.

The Sea Shepherd president is thrilled that the volunteers were finally able to save the animal: “There, suddenly [le rorqual] managed to release an extraordinary burst of energy.” The race time trial had started the day before, when the whale had washed up on a beach. The mastodon is 15 tons and 12 meters long, and was crushed by its own weight. Tuesday, September 20 in the morning, the cetacean was still under surveillance, but at sea this time.
