In the middle of catering and in the hotel industry, employers and unions have managed to reach an agreement. Employees will be able to benefit from a salary increase of just over 16% on average and the minimum wage will be higher than the SMIC. Will this measure be enough to save a sector that is struggling to hire?
The agreement is about to be signed and this increase in wages is welcome among restaurateurs. In Bordeaux (Gironde), Nicolas Culy, restaurant owner in a brasserie, explains that “It’s a very good thing. It can help to build a little more loyalty, to make people more interested in doing this job”. This agreement provides for an average salary increase of 16.3%.
“We’ve been waiting for this for a long time because with the Covid, there are a lot of people who have changed jobs in relation to this”, says another restaurateur. In a restaurant in the same city, a kitchen clerk was hired five months ago and will already be eligible for a salary increase. “I am well paid for a kitchen assistant starting in this profession”, rejoices Mathis. This agreement is not applicable before March 1, 2022.
