The cast of this new offering from the director of Decline of the American Empire and Barbarian invasions is impressive. In the trailer released on Friday, we can see in particular Sophie Lorain (in the role of the director of a seniors’ home), Marie-Mai, Guylaine Tremblay, Denis Bouchard, Marcel Sabourin, Clémence Desrochers, Caroline Néron, René Richard Cyr, Louis-José Houde, Yves Jacques and Robert Lepage, among others.

“Denys wanted to spoil himself and surround himself with actors he likes a lot,” the film’s producer, Denise Robert, confided to us when the cast was unveiled. Willlast December.

“He wanted to indulge himself by surrounding himself with people he’s worked with before and others he really likes and admires. He was very happy to shoot his film with such a great team.

Will also marks the seventh collaboration between Denys Arcand and Rémy Girard, after notably The Decline of the American Empire, Jesus of Montreal, The Barbarian Invasions And The Fall of the American Empire.

However, this is the first time the actor has played the lead role in an Arcand feature film since Barbarian Invasions, the film that won the renowned Quebec filmmaker an Oscar in 2004.

“This is our 7e film together, Denys and me, and he always tells me: I write them, you say them, ”said Rémy Girard in an interview on the show Salut Bonjour, Friday morning.

“We share the same sense of humor, he and I, and I also share what he thinks of society. It’s a film where we talk about all the new trends: gendered, non-gendered, woke, not woke… There are some who are going to take it for their cold! But it is done with this look of Dionysius, which is always right, in my opinion.

Social criticism

The synopsis of Will, unveiled in December, last leads us to believe that Denys Arcand will offer a scathing social critique as only he knows how to do. We can read there that the character camped by Rémy Girard evolves in “an era of political correctness, identity evolution, protests, cultural scandals, militancy, media storms and other disputes”.

Certain replies that we hear in the trailer prove to be tasty, among others the one where the director of the seniors’ home (played by Sophie Lorain) affirms that “the Ministry of Health has decided that video games were superior to reading in stimulating brain activity in older people.

Will hits theaters October 5. TVA Films will distribute the feature film.
