In total, nearly 30 people were evacuated from the scene, while the flames spread to a large part of the building. Four people were injured. Three of them were taken to hospital early in the afternoon. A 12-year-old child had serious injuries. He was transported, in absolute urgency, in shock service.
According to the first elements, the fire was caused by the accidental explosion of a gas cylinder in the kitchen of one of the apartments. The Grenoble public prosecutor’s office has opened an investigation to shed light on the causes and circumstances of the accident. The building had been squatted for several months.
About thirty firefighters and numerous machines were mobilized to overcome the disaster. The road to Lyon was blocked to traffic during the intervention. The flames were brought under control shortly before 3 p.m., but the operation was still in progress on Monday mid-afternoon.
