In Strasbourg, in Bas-Rhin, a temporary worker was rejected by the manager of a Geox store because she was wearing a veil that she did not want to remove to work. She filmed the scene and posted it on TikTok. The video has since gone viral.
The video has been igniting social networks since Thursday April 11. As she prepares to start her first day of work in a Geox store in Strasbourg (Bas-Rhin), a temporary worker is asked to leave the premises by the manager, on the grounds that she is wearing a veil. The tone rose between the two individuals. The temporary worker ended up leaving the scene, before posting the video on the Internet. She then reacted on her TikTok account, explaining that she was a “new veiled”, and be “failed” when arriving for interviews.
The law does not prohibit wearing the veil in a private company
The law does not prohibit the wearing of the veil in a private company. But since the El Khomri law of 2016, a company can prohibit it in its internal regulations, only if it poses problems in terms of hygiene or insecurity. Contacted, Geox did not respond to franceinfo’s requests. Since the publication of the video, the manager has faced numerous hate messages on social networks.
