“A very important date for all of Normandy” greets Hervé Morin

It’s Christmas before the hour for the supporters of the Rouen bypass project. Prime Minister Jean Castex announces it in Paris-Normandy. To put an end to traffic jams in and around Rouen, it is a question of building a 41 km motorway between the A28 to the A13. Last February, the Metropolis of Rouen voted against the funding, highlighting ecological reasons. The Normandy region and the Seine-Maritime department then compensated for the missing 66 million euros. In total, the eastern bypass must cost less than 1 billion euros, half of which is public money, the rest paid by the future concessionaire. The State will launch a call for applications in early 2022 to find it with a start of work scheduled for 2027-2028 for commissioning not before 2030-2031.

The mayor PS and president of the metropolis of Rouen Nicolas Mayer Rossignol denounces a project of “another time” and the ecologists a project “climaticide”. For the president of the Normandy region, the centrist Hervé Morin, invited this Wednesday from France Bleu Normandie, it is however good news: “Happy because it has been a huge effort for several years. I remind you that this is a project that we have been talking about since the end of the Sixties. When you take the boulevard of the industrial zone with its hundreds of heavy goods vehicles one behind the other, with license plates coming from all over Europe , does all this have to go through the center of Rouen? “ underlines Hervé Morin. To the question of the future toll which would dissuade taking this future highway, the president of the regional council considers “that it suffices to dissuade heavy goods vehicles from passing through the center of Rouen “.

We have passed a very important stage. Herve Morin

To the accusation of a “climaticide” project brought by environmentalists, Hervé Morin adds: “We’re still going to change the model. You start to see the first hydrogen trucks, mobility made from petroleum is soon the end. And so, in 10 or 15 years you will still have heavy goods vehicles but no more internal combustion engines like today “.
