A vehicle smashes a physiotherapy clinic in Longueuil

Two receptionists from a medical physiotherapy clinic narrowly escaped death on Tuesday noon when a vehicle smashed through the front of a building before stopping close to them in Longueuil.

“If the vehicle had deviated a little from its trajectory, it was over for them, that’s for sure,” said an employee of the Concordia Physio Sport clinic on Chambly Road.

According to authorities, the driver of a sport utility vehicle (SUV) made a false move around 12:15 p.m. in the parking lot of the small shopping complex.

The driver aged in her sixties would then have violently struck the windows of the facade of the clinic before going to stop in the building.

The vehicle was completely embedded in the clinic when emergency services arrived on the scene.

“The noise it made when it crashed is indescribable! At the time, we didn’t know what had just happened. We were wondering if there was not someone who was going to get out of the vehicle with a weapon to come and kill us,” said the clinic employee, still shaken by the events.

One of the receptionists there had to be taken to hospital for minor injuries, while the driver of the SUV was also taken to a hospital with nervous shock.

Specialists were to go on site during the afternoon to assess whether the structure of the building is safe or not.

The damage to the physiotherapy clinic certainly amounts to several thousand dollars.

According to the authorities, the accident was due to a false maneuver and not to a criminal act.
