14 million tennis balls are used in France every year. So, a Vaucluse company decided to recycle these used balls. She turns them into a dance floor. Encounter.

In Avignon (Vaucluse), dancers link movements. Under their feet, there is a floor specially designed to absorb shocks. Tennis balls, that’s the secret to the cushioning of these floors. This concept has been developed for many years by a company in Vaucluse. For the past year, the company has been using recycled balls. Used balls come from tennis clubs in the region. Difficult to value, they are given free of charge to the company.

“An environmental interest”

These balls are cut in half and then glued to wooden slabs. It costs 80 euro cents for a new ball. By using used balls, the company achieves financial savings, but not only. “It is an economic interest, but it is above all an environmental interest. We stop buying bullets that come from Asia“, assures Loïc Durand, founder of the company Spectat. The company is now turning to other sports.
