Tags, crossed out inscriptions and even a Celtic cross: the facade of an LGBT + center in Perpignan (Pyrénées-Orientales) was degraded on Sunday June 4, reveals the daily The Independent. It’s a sad discovery to see this hatred and rejection from people unable to ‘live together’.”deplores the Lgbt+66 Center in a message posted on Facebook. According to photos published by the association, the terms “gay”, “lesbian” and “trans” have been crossed out, as has the center’s logo on the storefront. A message “not your propa” was also found on the facade.

“We are not afraid”

“We have already had the screen printing torn off and the letterbox torn off”announced Guy Gaultier, co-president of the center, in The Parisian. “We are not afraid, they are the ones who are afraid. We continue, we are not going to give in, we are here”, he warned, adding that he had filed a pre-complaint. According to the annual report of SOS Homophobia, homophobic physical attacks are in “worrying increase”. In 2022, the association recorded 184 cases, i.e. one physical attack every two days, up 28% compared to 2021.
