A vaccination campaign will soon be launched in Montreal schools in order to deal with the recent increase in measles cases in the metropolis.
Montreal Public Health confirmed Friday that its teams, in collaboration with the CIUSSS and school service centers on the island of Montreal, are already at work to prepare the administration of the two doses of the vaccine.
Vaccination will be carried out in schools or at local service points.
“It will be a very targeted campaign to reach the population who are little or not vaccinated, i.e. school-aged students,” said Geneviève Paradis, spokesperson for the CIUSSS du Centre-Sud-de-l’Île- in an interview. from Montreal. “Our teams are analyzing the groups and locations that we want to target as a priority. »
We do not yet know when vaccination will begin, but a letter and a consent form have already been or will be sent to parents in the areas concerned.
As of Friday, the Quebec Ministry of Health indicates that 12 confirmed cases of measles have been declared in Quebec since the start of 2024. Of this number, 9 have been recorded in Montreal.
