Suspended more than 15 meters above the water, a truck is ready to tip over at any moment. Prisoner in the cabin, the driver waits for help. After 40 minutes of fear above the void, she came back up at the end of a rope and a harness. “She was thanking God. I told her to breathe deeply and follow my instructions”, explains Bryce Garden, firefighter with the Louisville – Kentucky (United States) fire department. The happy ending of a multi-vehicle accident on March 1 on a bridge crossing the Ohio River in Louisville, Kentucky.
“The truck could fall at any moment”
The semi-trailer crashed into the safety barrier. Then begins a high-risk rescue operation. “The truck was swinging over the edge of the bridge. We were very concerned about the lack of stability which put our men in danger. We were constantly worried because the truck could fall at any moment”, explains chef Brian O’Neill. In shock, the woman was hospitalized. Louisville town hall praised the composure of the rescuers.
