a trophy in tribute to François Moncla with Racing 92

From this season, the Section Paloise and Racing 92 will compete for the “François Moncla Trophy”. The Béarnais, captain of the Section Paloise champion of France in 1964, also champion with the Racing Club de France (ancestor of Racing 92) in 1959, figure of French rugby, is died last November at the age of 89
. From this Saturday, during the Racing 92 / Section Paloise match, “the two clubs – surrounded by his family – will pay tribute to one of their emblematic player by putting this trophy in his memory into play for the first time“, specify the two clubs in a joint press release. Each season the trophy will be awarded to the best of the two teams over the two matches.

“To perpetuate the memory of François Moncla”

Pascal Maurin, president of the section’s alumni association, detailed the initiative in the press release: “When the death of François Moncla was announced, the Amicale des Anciens de la Section Paloise, François’ club with which he was captain and champion of France and for which he worked so hard, initiated exchanges with the Amicale du Racing 92 to put together a tribute. This resulted in the creation of the François Moncla Trophy which will be contested by its 2 clubs. We are very happy with this association which allows us to perpetuate the memory of François on the grounds around our two historic clubs.
