Among the week’s many album releases is a three-song EP from a new Montreal band called Feu la nuit, which says it’s “the new Franco dream.”

We are talking about a new group, but the members of the trio are already well known for their curriculum vitae: Francis Mineau became known as the drummer of Malajube, while Mathieu Denoncourt and Simon Quevillon flew in Mille Monarques.
Over the past decade, all of them have accompanied different artists. Francis Mineau and Simon Quevillon shared the stage together Bernhari, for example, while Mathieu Denoncourt carried out several mandates as a lighting designer.
It was just before the pandemic that the two former members of Mille Monarques started composing together again.

The guys had the “chills”, they say. So much so that they quickly felt the need for a drummer.

It must be said that the three musicians share a great affection for new-wave and bands like Tears for Fears and The Cure, as well as for dream pop.
If Francis Mineau jokes with his companions that they could have “taken a beatbox », they thank him for having made « waltz » Lilac, the last song of the EP with many melodic refrains. His presence was also required on the second piece, Neon Paradeespecially since the rhythm runs on a very “Malajubian” urgency.

Feu la nuit is the idea of bringing light out of the darkness, and in each of the EP’s dense songs, this is manifested by flights of guitars and keyboards at the end of the course.
As a lyricist, Mathieu Denoncourt explains that words emanate spontaneously from music. Result: colorful and poetic words. “He has a gift,” says his friend Simon.
However, it is the latter who was inspired by the word which serves as the title of the first extract, Childhood, borrowed from Réjean Ducharme. “The child in us is a rich theme,” he underlines.
Feu la nuit is releasing a first EP of three songs, but a dozen could end up in the show that the trio plans to give — and which will be announced — shortly. There remains the presence of a bassist to be confirmed.
