A tribute stamp for Margaret Atwood

(Toronto) Margaret Atwood, already celebrated around the world for her writing skills, notably for The scarlet maid, will be entitled to a special stamp from Canada Post.



The crown corporation announced that the new stamp will be unveiled Thursday, during a ceremony at the Toronto Public Reference Library.

One of Canada’s most prolific and decorated writers, Margaret Atwood has published over 50 collections of poetry, novels, essays and graphic novels.

She is best known for her dystopian depictions of societies ravaged by patriarchal oppression and environmental destruction, as evidenced by the 1985 classic. The scarlet maid, which has been adapted to the small screen.

The award-winning author is scheduled to attend Thursday’s event alongside filmmaker Sarah Polley, who has adapted another novel by Mme Atwood, Alias ​​Grace (1996), and feminist and social activist Ceta Ramkhalawansingh.

Other famous Canadians who have recently been added to Canada Post’s stamp collection include cartoonists Serge Chapleau and Terry Mosher, Indigenous singer-songwriter Buffy Sainte Marie and great actor Christopher Plummer, who died in February.
