This Sunday at dawn, the Cross Jobourg is contacted by a fishing vessel. These occupants report a fire in the machine room. The 21-meter trawler is then at about four kilometers off Urville-Nacqueville, in the Cotentin. Five sailors are on board. Immediately, an alert message was broadcast and the canoe Mona Rigolet from the Goury SMSM station was engaged.
In the meantime, the sailors managed to put out the flames. But a major waterway has formed in the engine room. The SNSM ship sets sail with two motor pumps on board.
Once there, the sea rescuers get busy drying out the engine room. The trawler is then towed to the port of Cherbourg, where it docks after more than an hour’s journey. The five sailors escape unscathed.
