The Capitole National Opera in Toulouse (Haute-Garonne) offers free shows in village squares. Everyone travels by bus. The France 2 teams attended one of the last performances at Saramon in the Gers.

Wooden stages, furniture, costumes: the technicians speed up the pace three hours before the performance in Saramon (Gers). “It works the same way as trestle theaters did in Molière’s time. We arrive, we settle down”, says a technician. Usually peaceful, the village square is bustling with activity as the singers warm up their voices. Others make up in the balls, open to the four winds.

“It is our passion to make opera heard”

The Capitoline National Opera performs that day on the Barber of Seville. “The mission is always to expand its audience (…) it’s our mission and it’s our passion to make people hear opera. As soon as we can, we do it in our room, but also outside”explains Christophe Ghristi, artistic director of the National Opera of the Capitol. “It’s great, friendly”says a resident.
