A toddler seriously injured in a snowmobile accident in Roberval

A 3-year-old child was seriously injured Thursday afternoon in Roberval following a snowmobile accident.

The accident occurred around 1:30 p.m. on private land in row 3. According to information collected by the Sûreté du Québec (SQ), the young child was seated in an inflatable toy attached to the back of the snowmobile when its driver lost control of the vehicle which then struck a tree.

The child, who was not wearing a helmet, was taken to Roberval hospital before being transferred to Sainte-Justine hospital in Montreal to treat serious injuries. “He would be in stable condition and out of danger,” the SQ confirmed on Friday morning.

An investigation is underway to understand the exact circumstances of the accident. The Sûreté du Québec reminds that wearing a safety helmet is compulsory for everyone, even on private land.
