A young couple from Lanaudière have been charged with criminal negligence after their 3-year-old child intoxicated himself with a hard drug he allegedly found at their home.
The 29-year-old father and 31-year-old mother, whose identity must be withheld due to a court order, appeared on 1er last May, at the Joliette courthouse.
They were charged with criminal negligence causing bodily harm to their child, who was then 3 years old, and whose identity is protected, on November 16, 2021.
That day, the parents would have left narcotics at the disposal of the little boy, according to the indictment. According to our information, around 4 p.m., a pharmacy would have dialed 911 to alert the Sûreté du Québec (SQ) concerning a child intoxicated by drugs.
The poor little one was taken to the Pierre-Le Gardeur hospital center in Terrebonne, then transferred to the CHU Sainte-Justine, in Montreal.
At this time, he would have been unconscious, but stable, we are told. It is not known to date if the little man has retained the after-effects of his intoxication.

Subsequently, however, an expertise was carried out in the residence of the parents.
The investigation allowed the Director of Criminal and Penal Prosecutions to lay two charges against the adult occupants of the place. They are also charged with possession of methamphetamines, more specifically.
An arrest warrant was issued against them on March 28, nearly a year and a half after the sad event. The Director of Youth Protection has been notified.
Their case will return to court next July.
