A thousand houses were affected and 250 people evacuated Sunday afternoon, in Saintes and the surrounding communities, reports France Bleu La Rochelle. For several days, the Charente-Maritime department has been experiencing flooding. This Monday, it is still placed on orange flood alert. The neighboring department of Charente, on the other hand, has returned to yellow.
The decline will be slow
Sunday afternoon, the Charente river reached its peak with 6.09 meters. The decline is expected to be slow and could last all week, according to Vigicrues forecasts.
The prefect on Sunday requested that the town of Saintes be placed in a state of natural disaster.
